The Texas Speed & Performance L83/L84 5.3L DOD/AFM Delete Kit with Chopacabra Camshaft combines the essential components needed to remove the factory cylinder-deactivation system with one of our most popular performance camshafts and a matched valve spring package.

Unlike a basic delete kit using a factory-style camshaft, this package upgrades the engine with a TSP Chopacabra camshaft for increased performance and the aggressive, choppy idle that made the Chopacabra name famous. The included valve spring package provides the additional valvetrain control required for the performance camshaft.

Simply select your engine—L83 or L84—and the kit will be configured with the correct application-specific components. This provides a convenient one-click package without requiring the customer to build a complete delete and camshaft package one component at a time.

TSP Chopacabra Camshaft

The included TSP Chopacabra camshaft is designed to deliver increased horsepower and torque along with an aggressive exhaust note. It is an excellent choice for customers who want their DOD or DFM delete to provide a noticeable performance upgrade instead of simply converting the engine to a factory-style non-DOD configuration.

The L83 and L84 use different phaser block and cam bolt configurations, so the correct application-specific version of the Chopacabra camshaft will be supplied based on the engine selected.

Matched Valve Spring Package

A matched performance valve spring kit is included to support the increased lift and more aggressive valve motion of the Chopacabra camshaft. The supplied spring package is selected for the camshaft and engine application chosen with the kit.

Valve spring installed height, retainer-to-seal clearance, and coil-bind clearance must be checked during installation. Additional valvetrain components may be required depending on the condition and configuration of the engine.

AFM/DOD Delete

This package replaces the factory cylinder-deactivation camshaft and lifters with a conventional non-DOD camshaft and lifter configuration. The included block-off components prevent oil from being directed to the removed cylinder-deactivation lifters.

The cylinder-deactivation system must also be disabled electronically through proper ECU tuning. Mechanical installation of the delete components alone will not fully remove the system from the vehicle’s calibration.
